Welcome to Hogar Sagrado Corazon!
The Hogar, run by the Franciscan Sisters of the Sacred Heart of Jesus, is located
in a flat, hot, and dusty city in the lowlands of Bolivia. It is home to over 120 girls, who are between
the ages of 0-20 years old. While some
have come because their parents are financially unable to provide for them,
others have come due to abandonment, death of parents, or harmful situations in
the home such as abuse. The hogar
provides the girls with meals, clothing, school, health services, activities
and religious development. It has four
dormitories where the girls sleep, a basketball court, library, and a small
farm with vegetables and animals.
If you would choose to be a Godparent, you will receive cards and newsletters at Easter and
Christmas time, a current photo at Easter, as well as various correspondences
from time to time. In return, you are
required to correspond with your goddaughter at least twice a year and send $45
for dues each year which go towards the general funds of the madrina account. The money for dues covers costs such as library
supplies, celebrations for special occasions, mailings, and birthday gifts for
the girls. Some madrinas/padrinos send
cards or packages for the girls’ birthday, Christmas or other holidays. Because our madrina/padrino program at the
hogar is more informal, we are hoping you will use your creativity to make your
goddaughter feel special. Some madrinas
also send additional money, which will be put into a personal account for your
godchild and used for the child’s future and for their personal needs (shoes, uniforms,
etc).
Please know that being a madrina/padrino to one of the girls
makes a huge difference in their lives.
The girls are always asking about their madrinas/padrinos and are always
happy to know that their madina/padrino is thinking of them.
You
can mail cards and packages to the hogar at the address below; please address
the envelope to your goddaughter above the line “Hogar Sagrado Corazon”.
